i am pretty sure they used to use a diesel in the Cherokee. Did they ever put it in the Wrangler for Export too?

Yup. According to the parts manuals (thanks Fuzz) some export Jeeps had an Izusu four banger in them. I've been sorta looking around to see if I can find out which motor/tranny it was to transplant one into mine ;-)

Yeah, Jeep changed the american line up from the Cherokee to the Liberty, but over seas they kept (what americans know as the liberty) the same name. It still sells as the Cherokee. To appeal to the european market, the liberty has always been offered with a diesel. Dora who runs www.letsgojeepin.com visited the plant and saw them being installed with the Cherokee badging on them. Hmmm, how about the Cummins 5.9L Diesel in a jeep? Think it would fit? Or how about this modified 5.9L powerplant in a flat fender? :?:

A Nissan 3.3L diesel was also used in the CJ-10 from '82-'85. It was mated to a t176 or 727. Also had a np208 tcase.
