OK, so I see a lot of stuff for strickly 1971 AMC 401's. So whats the deal with that year engine. I guess I should be asking, I have a 78 block with stock 58 cc heads and ran across these pistons:

Anyone know of a reason why these wouldn't work? And if so, why is it that besides the 1971 info that you usually see listed by itself, you also only see a lot of parts listed up to the model year 1976 for the 401's? I don't think there was much of a change was there? Just wondering why the 71 is sooooo cool and my 78 is a dork! 8)

I really don't care if they don't make them anymore, as long as they work. I am starting to run out of options for higher compresion pistons for under $450. Any suggestions? Come onnnnnnnn! You gotta know somebody!

And on a side note, do you know if the 1971 401 was different than later years?
