Looking for some advise on the best way to adjust the valves on my new 304? I'm using Edlebrock cam and lifters. They say zero lash, but I've preloaded the lifters on SBC? Thanks.

So, no one has ever set their valves in a new engine huh. :-|

You talking to Mr Inexperienced here, but I dropped an Edelbrock Performer cam and lifters with the timing chain in my 304 a couple years ago, I just pluged it in, dropped the lifters in (Edlebrock said NOT to preload the lifters) and then put it all back together. Ran like a champ. Don't know if this helps or not!

Sorry that nobody has answered your question barry!

If you are using bridged rocker their is no adjustment as they utilize a tower that is bolted to the head and the pivot arm is held in by spring and lifter pressure, not the best way to go but thats stock......well fro most AMC heads. So in short you dont have to adjust them just bolt them on

I don't have bridged rockers, they are the 70/early 71 304 heads with studs. Then what?

Then its done like a chevy, you will need to turn the engine over and when the camshaft is at the lowest point then you turn it untill it doesnt tick an then turn it a quarter turn more, Is a messy frigging job......

take a old valve cover cut a small slot in top of it for a socket to go through you could also bolt a thin pc of rubber on to cover the rest of the slot to help keep the oil from shooting out
