After looking for the last few weeks for sources for some affordable high compression pistons, I think there is a need for someone to make these. I am looking at the 10:1 or slightly higher. The only ones I could find were forged and cost around $700. Not sure if this is doable at a resonable cost or not.

hmm if I got 10 guys to do it I would build the tooling and get forged blanks and machine them

A friend of mine bought a 360 from an old stock car Guru and it had 343 pistons in it. Same bore and pin hieght but flat top. Don't know how to do the math, but was surposed to give about 12.5:1 compression. I know the 360 screamed.

:?

Mag Dog is offering a forged set from Ross for $499. They do 10.1:1 with 51cc heads, 9.5:1 with 58cc. Probably all you want on pump gas.

I just got a set of Ross pistons for my 390, these are BEAUTIFULLY made pistons. The set is matched to within 2.5 grams and .0002" tolerance.

Bob they are also offering forged 360 rod sets. Spoke with Nick Alfano about this, he says preorders are $275 a set of 4340 forgings....pretty dang good deal for a HC 360 fan

I've been talking to D.W. (800-792-9984 x-113) down there quite a bit. He's their "AMC guy". He said they're working with Ross to get some pistons in the 12.5 area for the 360 and 401, should be available soon.

These guys know how many AMC fans are out there, and seem more than willing to work to get new products out there. We just need to call and show them there's a demand for a certain product.

Maybe Bulltear needs to step up as preferred (or referred) machinists.

Were the 390 pistons you purchased std bore?

NO, they're +.030. Mad Dog is only doing .030s right now. You can get standard bore directly from Ross, but they are special order, and about $150 more. The forged .030 ones from Mad Dog were $549. My block had a little too much wear to stay standard.

I'm going to be running my AMX on the street, plus some club sponsored drag and road track days, so I'll be flogging it a bit. I want to make sure everything is to spec, so no problems down the road. :t:
