O.K. so we have our basic 4 speeds right, so why can't we get a Ford 6 speed manual tranny w/a 3.73 or 4.10 rear?
That (w/the 3.73) would give you a finial ratio of 2.73??? or w/the 4.10 a 3.00 ratio, sounds pretty nice.
I think you would still have the granny & still have a overdrive gear (6) to do the highway thing.
It would fit in the CJ8 I think?
Does advanced or anyone sell a adapter or will it just not mate up to the
I-6 or 360?

Ford ZF 6 speed is a large gear box, large and long shares a similar OD ratio to the Dodge chevy NV4500 .73:1 and also the Dodge NV5600. The Granny low is no lower than the NV5600 & NV4500's @5.63:1 but the NV4500 (5 speed) offers an optional gear cluster in a few applications that was 6.32:1 with the .73:1 OD. Basically all the 6spd were designed to do was lighten the jump from 2-3 and 3-4 over the old 5 spds ZF5 and NV4500's

NV4500 Dodge 5.61 3.04 1.67 1.00 0.73
NV4500 Chevy 6.34 3.44 1.71 1.00 0.73
NV5600 Dodge 5.63 3.38 2.04 1.39 1.00 0.73
ZF6spd Ford 5.79 3.31 2.10 1.31 1.00 0.76
ZF5spd Ford 5.72 2.94 1.61 1.00 0.76

There are some ratios to examine and like i was trying to say the 3rd gear on a five spd is split in half roughly making up the difference between 5's and 6's.

In my experience the 6spd are overkill in alot of gas applications. The rpm split is condusive to diesel applications, where the effiecient RPM operating range is short like 1600-2200 rpm ball park. I know that the rpm split with the dodge nv5600 is 600 rpm between gears.

Cool idea, very involved since it uses a integrated bellhousing and it yields very few benefits over a 5spd in a gas application. Diesel truck pulling a trailer, now you're talking.

It is something like 1 1/2+ times longer than the nv4500 5 spd too. AA made an adapter to put the NV5600 up to the Ford 460 and ford diesel.

Excellent, Thanks jeeps & dusty I did not realize the application betwen the 5 & 6 speed w/a gas engine etc. I think the NV-4500 is it will do o.k. for what I want. Time to start saving $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, but I have to stop buying JeePs. 111!!!

My friend dropped in a NV5600 behind his stroker LT1 in his Rodeo. The bellhousing is part of the front of the tranny, so he had to cut the front half of the bellhousing off, then butcher a chevy bellhousing. He then had to weld them together using tons of little 1" square pieces of old bellhousing. What a pain in the ass. Plus that thing wieghs like 300 pounds and is long as hell. I just don't see why he went through all of that crap when he could have easily dropped in a 4500. Oh well, to each their own!
