Brad, I had a 75 CJ5, 304 with a hydraulic set up, can't remember part numbers and such, but should be a fairly easy swap-in. Got rid of mine when the 327 was swapped in and I went mechanical do to ... ah ... some other mods I did - needed a positive clutch pack and mongo springs to handle the HP I built into it

My TSM doesn't go that far back, but AZ, Pep Boys or AA should be able to research with you.

thanks for the info. I ENDED UP CALLING CENTERFORCE TECH LINE . THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO USE THE 82-86 PRESSURE PLATE, IF I WOULD USE THE 76-79 PLATE IT WOULDN'T FULLY DISENGAGE WITH A HYD. PEDAL. AS FOR THE DISC I COULD STILL USE THE ORIGINAL 76-79. SO I ORDERED THE PARTS FROM CENTRAL 4 WD. WAITING FOR THEM . HOPE THEY WORK. WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT.
THANKS

Hey Brad, keep us updated as to how the parts work/fit! You might be saving someone the same trouble you went through!

got s the goods in the mail allinstalled behind the freshly built 304, fired it fr the 1st time last night and runs good, bleed the clutch line and it works that simple. the pedal has a bit much free travel, but i need to fab a longer push rod, centerforce clutch works. one said that any pplate would do as long as it was a diaphram style? don't know but the conversion worked and can give some helpful tips to others if thinking of the same swap.

Good job Brad! A write up and parts list in the Tech section < http://www.bulltear.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=7 > would be useful to others.

I wish I'd have read this earlier....I could have saved you a bunch of money! I run the hydraulic master cylinder out of a '79 cj with the slave cylinder from an '81 sx-4. I had to make my own mount to the bellhousing but it works great. The clutch savings comes from changing 4 clutches last year! I fried the 10 5/8" clutch at a race, swapped in a new 11" clutch intended for a 3/4 ton j 4000 w/ a 401. I promptly fried it in the first pass! Went home and installed another just like it....fried this one after about 9 - 10 passes. I got my $250.00 back from the shop and sent my original 10 5/8" clutch disc into HI-CAP of Iowa. They made it into a button clutch (just like centerforce dual friction) for $70.00! I put the original pressure plate back in and have run a total of 10 races in the past 12 months with no slippage whatsoever! I race hard....dropping the clutch at 4,000 - 5,000 rpm depending on the track condition or truck in the next lane in 2nd gear, low range with 33" Boggers. If it holds up for me it will work for you! hohner

If you don't loose your leg when 10,000 little chunks come through your floor board the first time you'll invest in one next time around

We just had a highly modified S-10 (pushing 800 - 1,000 HP) literally grenade a turbo 400 through his trans tunnel. The blast put a hole the size of a loaf of bread up through the trans tunnel, blew the lexan windshield 50' in the air and scattered bits and pieces of trans parts 100' in all directions! He stepped out with one small cut below his knee(very lucky!!). They teched in with the trans shield in place but did some work on the trans and could not get it back in place in time to race so they ran without it......could have bought the truck very cheaply after the incident!
Any way, where can I get a bellhousing shield for my application? I do want to keep my feet and legs where they are!

Here's a couple - I did a Google on "transmission shield". You need to find one that fits your app/tranny of course.
