I know all about the AMC-20 & D-44 & what can be done to it etc.
I don't know much if any about the D-35.

My question is as follows:
What can be done to this axle to improve it if need be & if it was left stock is it a strong axle, would you put it in your Jeep or put a AMC20 in the Jeep.

Thanks,
RollBar

P.S. It's out of the 2WD 96' Cherokee w/3.55 gears.

There is a lot you can do to it.

Superior makes axles for it, most of the companies make lockers for them. You can go from C-clip axles to non-c-clip.

The biggest problem that I have heard of is the strength of the axle tubes themselves. They are prone to bending, and once that happens, fuhgetabout. Throw the axle away.

If I had my choice, it would be an AMC 20 all the way. Put 1 piece axles in it and be happy for a long time.

I would say an AMC20 also, 1 piece axles, weld the tubes to the pumpkin, Same carrier above 3.08 so no need to switch carriers if you change to deeper gears later on.

The 20 is a tough little axle when its dressed up a bit... the 35 can be built like mentioned with great forged axles and a high spline carrier. they even have a little extra meat in the casting to contain the gears like a 20 but sadly they dont have a huge pinion or ring gear

I'll just stick w/the 20.
