I am currently rebuilding (I won't say restoring, because it won't be original) a 69 AMX. I should have it back from the painter next week. It's Bittersweet Orange with a black stripe (factory colors). It will have a 390 built to produce about 450HP and 450 lb/ft of torque. Suspension has all been rebuilt, 3.73 gears, 2000 stall converter, rebuilt M12 automatic trans. Bumpers and tail light housings have been re-chromed, and all the stainless has been polished.

The only thing I haven't settled on is whether I go with a repro Magnum 500 wheel, or a new Torque thrust. I want to keep the wheels something that would have been available in 69.

Awesome sounds like it will be a riot

I have a black 74amx..sson to be getting either a built 360 or a mild 401..Not sure on rims or color yet. I am thinking maybe a custom graphic on the hood and trunk lid.

Although I do enjoy the stock look I also like the modern upgrades and new paint schemes

I obviously have 70 AMX. It has a mild to hot 360, or at least it feels like it. It is an original 390 car with a 4 speed. It still has the 4 speed and i want to put a 390 back in. My plan is to turn it into a road race type car. I'm going to get a suspension package, (springs, shocks, and sway bars), new seats, and maybe a new cam and carb.

I'd like to get new torque thrusts too.

Ive got a '71 Javelin. right now almost all stock with a very tired 304 in it. The machine work is all done to the "new" 401 though and its just waitin to be assembeled. I'll get time to do it one of these days #-o
The 401 has been bored .030, decked, align honed, Rotating assy. balanced, Crank is .010/.010, stock rods, TRW L2380F pistons, Havent decided on cam yet, probably stay fairly conservative, Tranny will be a TH 400.
My main concern right now is I need to bring my compresion down a bit so I dont have any detonation problems. I've got 6291-c heads and with this combo it will come to about 10.6:1, I would be more comfortable under 10:1

I own a 1972 Javelin SST which was purchased new. The car has the 360 motor pistons .030 over Torker manifold with a holly 4 barrel. Still drives great but is due for some work mechanical and body Along that line I have purchased one full rear drivers quarter and I am looking for the passenger side rear quarter panel. (Body rot around wheel wells and lower rear quarters) Wouldnt part with the car for the world. It still gets thumbs up even with the rear quarter problelms

Other than the 68 J3000, I have a 1959 Rambler 6 Wagon. Pulling the engine tomorrow, already have a 65 Impala 10 Bolt rear out back, completely rebuilt but not hung properly (just a roller atm). Body is straight but no paint to speak of, chrome looks nice :D I'll never have the money for a restoration, planning on a v8 swap, auto conversion. Slap some tractor black paint on it, wheels, replumb the brakes and rewire everything, and call it done.

page with crappy pics: http://www.geocities.com/ramblerwagon59

I *am* looking for some things, eagle disc brake spindles, rear hatch door (for the rambler), a windshield if its close to SW Colorado, and a 401 :t:

My current AMC is an 73 Ambassador with a 401/727 that's still has stock spec's. Car was imported by me from the USA last year.
It's supposedly an ex cop car, (it has all the right stuff) that was used at Eglin AFB, Fl.
Found the car on Eddie Stakes SUAD drive list and bought moore or less "unseen" only had the pictures at the site listed below to go on, but it turned out better the expected with a strong running motor, and a good chassie.

I got the car for what I think a very good price considering what just 401's go for on Ebay. Paid $ 1500 for the car itself, but then of course there is the shipping, customs, and registration fee etc, so all in all it has costed me around $ 3000 and change... Worth every Penny, or in my case every "Krona" as our funny money is called.

Yepp it had a set of peroid missmatched gauges, but they all work, and show a good oil pressure and vacum reading. :-)
Only had to do a regular tune up + some minor welding to pass our car inspection witch is very stringent. Not only do they do a sniffer test but they also check brakes, suspension components, and for structural rust damage.

Thanks for the comments. :t: Just so you are aware, the 86 & newer steering columns are different. They will machanically fit, but the high beam switch and wiper controls are in the turn signal group instead of seperate switches on the dash and floor. So, you would have wiring challenges to change it out with the newer column.

Probably so, I replaced my CJ's with a GM version tilt - but my wipers and lights are on the dash, dimmer is still on the floor. I just got my daughters tilt column tonight - it has the delayed wipers and washer wand - I'll check the P/N of the switch and see if it crosses to a GM #

I own a 69 343 4spd AMX with a 69 390 with a big cam and 3.15 cogs, best time to date is a 13.80 at 103 with serious BFG frying. That was also run before I put the right flywheel in it (had a 343 flywheel) #-o I also added electronic ignition, and 2.5 flowmaster exhaust to the mufflers with an H pipe and 2.25 the rest of the way to look stock. Plans are to have it in the body shop by March or April and it'll get painted the original Hunter Green with white Go Pack stripes. I just bought the 70 and haven't had a chance to touch it yet, but plans are to build a contender in the Nastalgia Musclecar NMCA races. My younger brother also owns a 71 401 4spd AMX non-air, non ram air, Mustard yellow car. He bought it for 750 bucks because it had an engine fire and the 401 was long gone. Alas my dad had just parted out his 82 Cherokee that had none other than a 71 401 out of an AMX! :lo1l: It now sports a rebuilt 401 with a mild cam and headers. SAWEEEET car!
