Those are sturgeon's.
I live near the Columbia River, and that's about the size they are around here, they are illegal to fish here though, even for catch and release.

OK, I was just scared those were trouser snakes, which I would imagine would hurt to get a hook through. :wink: So why are they illegal to fish? Rare fish? OK, so what do you do if you are fishing and one bites your line and you don't realize it till you get it to the boat?

They are becoming quite rare, yes...
and you won't 'accidentally' catch one of these guys... it's quite the equipment, bait, tackle, setup and technique involved. You don't just 'happen' to catch one.

I don’t think there would be anything “accidental” about landing one of those monsters. My 30 pound test line wouldn’t stand up to the first strike!! :!:
