William, if you look at the crank specs you will see that a 304 and a 360 crank are the same... that means the flywheel is the same since it is balanced to the crank. What is different is the bore and the 360 has the big valve heads. A 390 flywheel is different as is a 401 flywheel. You will see that the crank for a 390 and a 401 are different. I have owned AMC since 1980 and have built numerous amc engines so I know what I am saying, this is also the same for an automatic flex plate and which transmission is being used. Thanks Dale

This is what the guy is saying about the flywheel . Any other opinions?

Actually, yes, the cranks are the same (journal and stroke dimensions). BUT, the bore on the 360 is bigger, and the pistons weigh more, so the balance of the crank, and therefore the harmonic and flywheel are different. All the AMC books I have list 2 different part #s and casting #s for the 304 and 360 flywheels. The 304 and 360 cranks also have different part #'s.

I will admit, I have gotten away with running a 304 flywheel on a 360 powered Jeep. BUT, when you lay the 2 flywheels side by side, the 360 flywheel has an extra balance weight that the 304 doesn't.

There's a guy on ebay that sells 360 flywheels for $125 brand new.
