Here are the current plans for my CJ. Let me know what you guys think.

I am stripping the Jeep down to the frame currently. I am going to clean up the frame, and put a YJ tub on it.

For axles, I picked up a D44 front and a D60 rear Currently they have 3.73 gears in them. I will leave those for now. Once i have a little bit of extra money I would like to put Full Detroits front and rear. Possibly in the future re-gear to 4.88ish or so

Transmission: I have my t-18 which i have been running. and I want to find a scout dana 300. Or buy an adapter for my stock dana 300

Motor: I am winning a 401 in a couple of days so that is taken care of

(if for some chance i dont get this 401. B/c of theft during shipping. I will either rebuild my 360, or try and find a 401)

Suspension. Currently I am planning on running Waggys Springs front and rear SOA. I am still debating on if I want to do a SRS or not. ANd have also been trying to decide if I want to run XJ springs in the rear, or just stick with the waggys :dontknow:

Pictures of the YJ tube, and tear down of the cj could be seen here

Any Tips or suggestions?

What do you guys think?

Well IF for some some demented reason MC ships my motor to you rather than me, send me your 360 so I have some azz to put in my CJ. That way my I-6 will go in my daughters YJ rather than me rebuilding another one. I'm holding off installing my snorkle until I know if I need an airbox for the 401 or the 258.

I would hold off on the SRS, especially after the discussion that was recently had on JonFund, where Bill said he has removed more of them than he has installed. Must be a reason for that.

I would drop the cash for 2 pairs of Revolvers. I talked with a guy who had them front and rear on his CJ-7 and he said he was ramping around 1300 on a 25 degree ramp.

Save money by not buying gears. Buy the lockers and install them. For gearing do an Atlas or a 4:1 for your Dana 300.

For your springs. You could try the Dakota springs like we talked about. The guy I got the info from, said he was running stock Dakota springs on his early CJ-5, and the springs were giving him 2.5-3 inches of lift.

Whatever you do, i'm sure it will come out a capable wheeler, even with a nut behind the wheel. 111!!! 8)

SRS. Hmm step on brakes jeep fram e and tub lurch forward axles try to stay put. or in tight spots front axle comes back just enough to create a binding sensation that sometimes yields irritating results while on the trail and pinched between two rocks. Just my expeience, probably why i was so thrilled when this virgin Scrambler frame came my direction.

Hang time is not a bad thing. revolvers are cool but add a little HP to them and when trying to hill climb or get up a rock they will unload also while driving on the streets they can make a rig a little too squirly

I suggest you look for a 1979 or 1980 Scout wide ratio T-19, which came with the 300 transfer case. The wide ratio T-19 has a 1st gear synchro and a 6.32 ratio. Advance Adapters makes an adapter that adapts the T-19 to Ford. From 1976 to 1979 the CJ-5's & CJ-7's use the Tremec T-150 transmissions, with the 304's, those transmissions have the same bolt pattern as Ford, so that would be a source for a bellhousing.

He's got the T-18 already with the correct bellhousing for his 360. The T-19 isn't a bad idea, but he has everything except the syncro First AND reverse. Not a big deal on the trail. If I'm not mistaken the Scout D300 will bolt up to the T-18 he already has.

Bolt pattern wise, I think your right, but the output shaft has a different spline count I think.

Correct the scout dana 300 will bolt up to my current t-18. I just need the correct bullgear as well.

As far as the SRS, we have run one on my dads YJ for the past 5 years. Made it ride a lot better and never had a problem with it. As I respect what Bill (sveperformance) said he is also a guy that likes Stock design. 1 other example i could think of off hand is taking after market carbs off the 258 to put the Carter Junk back on

I am not a fan of the revolvers in the front b/c of the possiblilty of lift, and as far as the rear I think I am going to wait and try out this new design. I believe it is called the Bullring

The T-19 Like Erik said I already have a t-18. Used this vehicle as my daily driver for a while, and never once noticed I did not have a synchro first gear. I never use first gear on pavement unless I am sitting in traffic. It is usually a good coasting gear

I need to look more into the Dakota springs. The reason I like the SJ springs Is i could either run my axles in stock location or 2" back. XJ rear springs I could move my Axle 6" back. But i think i want to keep some sheet metal on the rear.

MAN!! And I thought MY axles were 'ratty' Are you going to shave the D60 for the extra clearance? And that almost looks like a YJ tub (the dash board) - on a CJ??

I am thinking about shaving the D60. Not right away, I will see how the rocks shave it down first

As far as teh YJ tub yes the top red jeep is a YJ. WIth YJ dash adn everything minus axles I bought. I am using the Tub on my CJ frame. I sold off the frame and motor from it. And have an extra t-18 still from That I need to get rid of/

The bottom Red jeep is my stock original rusty 1985 CJ

Here are some more pics of my progress tonight

As my wife keeps telling me - "When are we going to have a garage I can park my truck in?" :? That tub doesn't look htat bad. I didn't see in fiberglassed cardboard where the seats should be :t:

My wife keeps saying to me "As long as 1 side is clear for my car during the winter, thats all i care about, the rest of the year I will park outside"

As far as the tub, the entire passenger side is bondo, the rear step is fiberglass all the way across. As we were unbolting it 2 mounts just ripped right off the tub. Rear 2 we did not unbolt just lifted the body straight up. If you did not mind completely replacing both sides, and a good portion of the floors, it would not be to bad

That basicallly looks like what i would have to do to get my tub back into good shape.

But I was able to get this YJ part out all the unneeded parts and make a few extra bucks to help fund this projext
