I know you all must be true jeep nuts, being in the "Jeep heads" group. I know I like to hear about other peoples jeeps, as well as see pics of them. I'm sure you all feel the same, so post what jeeps you have (Year/Model) along with any details you feel necessary (specs, stories, etc.), and don't forget the pics (if you have them)! What makes you a jeep nut?

I'll go first;

My 1996 XJ

My 1988 MJ

I am not sure, I sold them to Captn Kaos (bob fischer) who traded them to Adam in Salisbury. I know he said he just got the motor out of the red on runnign, but also know he was parting them/selling at least 1 of them at 1 point. So they could very well be in tolland now. But I dont think they are the same ones

Hi all glad to have found a site with some good solid AMC engine teck

Here a couple of pics of my Jeep

http://members.shaw.ca/iamcrawling/images/jeep1_jul04_proving%20grounds.jpg

http://members.shaw.ca/iamcrawling/images/Flex3.JPG

Also currently have the remains of my '87 YJ, 1981 J-10, and a 1965 J-2000 Thriftside with what appears to be a factory option Ramsey PTO

I had a 1982 FSJ Cherokee which donated its 360 to the green YJ

The J-2000 is going to be resurrected(I got it for free out of the woods where it had sat for fifteen years) its got papers. The plan calls for using the J-10 frame and cab as the rust is terminal in the J-2000. Then add one Dana 60 front one Dana 70 rear one 24V Cummins, a NVG 6500, and a NP205. Don't hold your breath for pics though, it will be a while until I can afford that project. It's fun to think about though.

Very cool!!

I'd be really interested to see some detail pics of the engine bay. I plan to reshape the firewall so I can mount t he engine far enough back to accomidate the intercooler, but having a visual reference to highlight potential pitfalls would be a great help.

That was an awsome day of wheeling, we were the first truck to wheel a new area that I call "The Proving Grounds" , tons of granite folds, lots of steep climbs(almost went over backward a couple of times with 104" wheelbase), lots of off-camber with scary roll potential down a couple hundred feet of rock.

Outstanding first pic I've only flown over BC haven't had the pleasure to be there.

The flex on the second pic ... 4 link with buggy springs? I can't get it large enough or clear enough to tell (company laptop  ) That is truely awsome flex!
Which motor you running n that one?

OBTW, my daughters 87- YJ is a Canadian made Jeep :lo1l:

It's a 3 link (upper wishbone), using 1/4e springs made up from old YJ and FSJ Cherokee springs. The motor is an AMC 360 from a Cherokee.

haven't got any pix yet but can give you a brief on the eagle.
its a 1983 amc(jeep according to the C.H.P.) eagle 4x4. its white with
blue lower body molding, 258 I-6 , amc 30 front diff, amc 35 rear diff,
np-129 t-case(for the moment) liberator all terrain tires 215/75-15,
the factory roof rack and original interior. the color does vary from mudhole to mudhole depending on where the hell i happen to be.
pix coming soon later, rollen :lo1l:

I thought the TJ filler was a neat mod since I was using TJ flares. I found that the CJ neck (79 up, small hoses) fit the TJ housing using only 4 of the 6 screws. I went to the local hydraulic supply and bought 2 straight pieces of fuel rated hose, I couldn't get the factory hoses to work without kinking at the molded bends. I think they're 1" and 1.25" ID. I got the filler housing off ebay for about $10, and I think the hoses cost me about $15.

Actually The kids my partner in crime..He Loves the CJ and wants to drive it everywhere..So he is my built in excuse, But it aint gonna be his first car! I went looking for my car ramps the other day and found he had them in the back yard driving his little electric powered "power wheels" jeep up them, I asked if he was doing a ramp travel index test on the suspension he just looked at me funny.Ah well he is young yet.

Hey, I like those rides you have there! Never seen those steel doors before - pretty sick looking.

Question - With those small lights on the windsheild hinges - can you fold the windshield down? I have KC Daylighters on mine and can't fold them down, so looking for another option to use there.

Thanks,
Jack

Goose
11-17-2004, 05:05 AM
Yep you can fold the windshield down, Those are Tractor lights about 8 bucks apiece and they are a flood type light I like KC's but cant really afford them and I prefer a flood light when I'm wheeling.

Oh and those are fiberglass doors the top came with the jeep and I have never really seen anything like it before. the windows slide up and down and the whole deal is pretty light. But it is missing the rear window and I cant seem to find what brand it is so I guess the silicone/plexiglass trick is in my future.

GEt some channel rubber from a glass shop or on-line (JC Whitney by the foot?) and fit the plexi into it - then you only need to glue the seam.

My insurance only gave me $4000 for it. Frame and body were both total loss. But, I did get the Jeep and you are not alone. I stripped it out and took all the parts that were good. Now I just need a frame and body and I will again have my Sweet Jeep.
That fish was the smallest fish we cought this year. And yes it gets muddy going to the fishing holes.
The sticker needs to be changed. Since I got this one he makes one that looks more like my Jeep, but I have to take the old one off, I think I will wait until spring.

Well I blew it up to the point of blurry and could maybe see some bolt holes  Then I took notice of no radiator - is it going up front or raised in the back like the desert racers? :-|
And the Coil overs ... 3 or 4 link up front?
My sliders are sorta like that too; 3x5x 1/4 angle iron, but don't I have enough 1.5 DOM left to put the "steps" on  Not sure I'll have enough 1.75 after my cage either #-o
I'll need to mount them at the lower edge so the spousal unit can get in and out, she's only 5'3", and even stepping in the rim then on the tire to get 'a leg up' she needs something to make the stretch between rear tire and the door

401ton
01-25-2006, 08:06 PM
On my setup, I can step on wheels, tires and sliders to get in it.
Radiator will go in stock grill postion. Of course, everything incuding that has been altered. I'm using dual electric fans. I want to shut them off for water crossings.

Here's my basic set up:

YJ frame with all brackets cut off and re-welded
Front frame third cut off and raised 3" to make room for lower front links without being lower than frame.
Upper front, rear of the wishbone mounting was inset into inward into frame to miss exhaust
Front is a 3 link wishbone type with no track bar. I'm ordering Full Hydro Steering this week.
Rear susp is double X 4 link.
3" TJ coil front with spacer
3" TJ coil rear over axle
Frame straightened in back
Tires are slightly in front of front frame
Tires are slightly behind rear frame (90 degree approach and departure)
Body was moved back about 2"
401 was moved back about 3"
dual front driveshaft with hangar bearing to miss rocks
rear axle is 14 bolt with dualie hubs for 63" WMS to WMS
front axle was bought with C's. Spose to be 63", but ended up 62", oh well
Tires are 42" TSL's on 16.5" Stazworks double beadlocks
I am now 82-83" outside of tire to outside of tire
My trailer has removeable fenders

I'll post a few other stored pictures. Some stuff has changed a little since I took some of these pictures.

Me neither Paul (the CJ completion that is!!) I need a 360 flywheel for the 5 spd or a 727 for the 360 :-| , some brackets and I'm about done!! (oh yeah - the TIME to put them on and in #-o )

NICE 401ton :t: :t: Got a winch planned for the front end too?
are you still waiting on me for brackets? #-o i've been busy patching the floor in my J20, off late at tech. seminar tonight and tomorrow night, and about a billion things going on as usual, let me know on the brackets and i'll get it figured out, with the 360 flywheel i may have one later, as i'm pulling a 4spd out of a j20, and replacing with an auto to use for snow plowing, but this project does not even have a start date yet.

Well either you or I have to find time on a weekend when it's not raining/snowing!! Not even sure what I need anymore? I think I have 1/2 the P/S and most (?) of the stock ALT, pretty sure I still need the A/C (I have a bunch of parts in the bucket to sandblast today before class tonight so I'll take stock) ... and a flywheel.
Thinking about just going to Brandywine/Keeners and say get me one that works #-o
Maybe trade off the waggie body for a 727, a flywheel, a full set of brackets and maybe see if they have a heavier tranny/t-case (an 18/20 setup?) they don't want to store anymore to replace the Tremec :t:

Thanks Paul, I have a flex-plate, I need a flywheel for a 5 speed manual - unless you have the 727 to go with it  :-|

Went looking around today, my 2 favorite salvage yards are now closed on Sat/Sun, the one I got to before they closed at 2PM said he had a waggie, but it turned out to be a Cherokee. And the guys next door "who would have one" were closed at noon. I think this is a conspriacy to stop guys from working on trucks over the weekend!!!

Well It looks like I will be getting my 1962 M38 back soon..I had restored it a few years ago and sold it to a bud that moved down to Lake Charles,LA then after the hurricanes he has (wisely imho decided to trade Louisianna bayous and great fishing for Denver,CO and the Awesome wheeling..) so Since the little Jeep has ridden through a 'cane or two and been submerged etc..(It was pressed into rescue and transport service afterwards.) It will be coming back home for a "freshen up"..Now that the owner has a great love and respect for the Jeep.

He told me that when the worst of the storm was over.. none of the newer cars would start after the flooding.. but he pulled the plugs cleared the water out and fired the jeep up..and went where he wanted to... He unfortunately didn't change the tranny diff or T-case oil so it has I think shelled the t-case..

But Proof positive of two things.. Old soldiers are always ready when called on.. and primitive aint all bad when what you really need is mobility not cup holders. :sa:

I have found a semi profitable niche in hauling Genetic engineering equipment (Cryo Freezers and growth tanks etc for cellular cloning) for an out fit out of AZ to many of the high zoot research companies..

But My Armalite and the Team Sharpsooters members have warned me, This summer I must compete or else..(ok it's a good excuse for doing what I want to anyway..)

I was kidding about the powerlines. I know there are many trails up in your area with powerlines on them that are known to be legal. Some people in the NE just have issues with pictures of power lines being posted.

Mabell is always a fun trail. Last couple of times i was there it was in my Dads CJ

The aluminum brackets that hold the "Vintage"headlights 279.00 EACH!!

Sorta makes the Jeep stuff seem cheaper. but if someone ever put a set of 8" stacks and then put lights in them?? Poser!! especially dumping the exhaust out under the sleeper?? Umm can you say carbon monoxide poisoning?

Yea I think maybe these guys arent thinking about things like that.. Seems they are building "show trucks" not work trucks.. I cant help but wonder , If some of these trucks look like hammered dog dookie inside and out, what condition is the running gear (a million miles on the motor / trans?) and are they making a beauty queen out of a broken down dog??

I mean after all if the guy is so broke his truck looks like that, what are the odds he can in -frame that motor at 12000.00 dollars

It's still a good show, just some wierd thinking going on.

I got the 4.3:1 Atlas. I was considering a 5.0 but they're always back ordered. My project started off as a '79 Wagoneer but I was going to have to do waaaay too much to make it what I wanted. I parted that out but I kept the engine. Then I bought a CJ and promptly started doing waaaaay too much to it. And as a suggestion, with the mods that are out there for the old workhorse splitters, is there a way to program in the different low ranges for the T-cases? :-|

There's two ways to do a 4:1 Tera Low D300.

1. Select the "Dana 300 (4:1 conversion)" option listed just under the "Dana 300" option.

2. Leave the t-case selection in "Enter your own numbers", put 1.0 in high range and 4.0 in low range.

The road speed is just how fast the vehicle would go if the engine had enough power to get it to that speed. Or, how fast the wheels would spin if you redlined it while it was on jackstands (or a dyno...) It's not meant to actually represent how fast the vehicle is able to go.

Gotcha - I'll retry. And I do think the motor will make that, on the road, hauling ass. 360, bored & balanced, cammed and jamed, yada, yada, yada - THAT'S what scares me :? :t:
