Need an opinion
« Thread started on: Today at 20:16:22 »
I'm considering doing a UNIQUE suspension on my CJ.

I am thinking about using XJ leaves on my 71 CJ.

Two schools of thought have been proposed to me.

1. Modify what I have. 2 1/2" Rancho lift. Take the overload leaf out and it should become a softer leaf pack and flex better.

2. Go with the XJ leaves, and experiment with a homebrew suspension. I'll gain longer leaves, which should provide better flex. Won't cost much. Less than $200 About the same amount of lift, so no new shocks needed.

I've got a friend who can help with the welding and any fab that might be needed.

What do you all think??

Thanks.

What Eriks Goal is, is to create his own home brew suspension, similar to the Holbrook suspension kit.

He already knows my answer, but i will post it here as well.

Basically to run the XJ springs he is going to need to weld new spring hangers on the frame a little further back, This is going to allow for the longer XJ spring to be used, and with the longer spring, allow for more flex.

The other option is to take a leaf out of his current 2.5" rancho lift, and attempt to gain more flex doing that.

My feeling is go with the longer springs, I think he will get more out of it overall, for what he is looking for

XJ spring spec
52.5" flat length
23.5" front eye to center pin
29" rear eye to center pin
