Fishtail question for army dudes..

Last year, I bought this m65 fishtail extreme winter parka.. It's a nice a US military parka.. I always wondered why it's designed like that? anybody of you boys in the US army can explain that to me.. I'd be surprised if it was simply for style..

This what I found on them. I was never issued one, even though it down to 70 below with the wind chill in Kansas :!: . That was cold for a So Cal boy.

That's what I figured, it creates somekind of an air pocket.. I suppose since air is an insulator.. I tested the parka in -35C last winter with the windchill at -50C.. and I could feel the cold a little, I had to wear a few layers under.. Let's see in imperial terms.. -22F and windchill of -58F.. we had this cold stretch last winter, was not fun to walk to work.. I had the balaclava on and all...

i flew in nice warn chinooks so cold wasn't a problem. a winter flight
suit worked for me. i was stationed at ft carson co.

Since is it SPLITS around each leg, maybe they misnamed it. 8)

Split Tail would be more appropriate for you army guys. 8) :mrgreen:
