The reason Jeep produced the CJ7 was because the CJ5 was too short for an auto trans. Your rear driveshaft will be nearly nothing, and if you have any lift at all, the angles may be too extreme.

Any torque converter from the 904/998/999 series of transmissions should work. You will also need a 6 cylinder flex plate for the auto. 6 cylinders are neutral balanced, a V-8 flex plate will bolt up, but the V-8s are externally balanced, and you would get a vibration.

What t-case are you using, and what adapter? Jeep used the TH400 until 79, most with the q-track t-case. From 80 up, they used a Dana 300 t-case, which has a different bolt pattern from your model 20. Regardless, an adapter will be needed between the trans and t-case.

Sorry I didn't list everything correctly.

I'm a tube buggy in the rear. My wheelbase is around 105.
I also have the D300 mated to the TF999.
