I'm building a 401 and have access to a 1968 Rambler americian. I want to mate the 2 with as little effort as possible(kinda lazy). The car was a 6 cylinder car. I know they v8'd these, just don't know if other cross members are interchangable. or am I going to have to fabricate everything?

You need the entire front crossmember out of a V-8 car of the same body size. Galvin's Rambler sells V-8 crossmembers. www.ramblerparts.com

the engine brackets are the same as 304 grem-horn-conc-spirit- i've been told the crossmember from these will fit, also- you'll have to weld up a trans mount as the rambler never came with a torqueflite- the stock 7 9/16 rear won't take it for long- i suggest a mopar 8 3/4 narrowed to fit- i have all this in a 72 gremlin that runs 12.0 with a mild 401 & has run 11.0 with a hi compression 390- headers can be tight- i use the hookers for the gremlin- spirit bodys with 1 removable tube.

I don't know if the Grem-hornet-Conc-Spirit x-member will fit the pre-1970 car. They are interchangable in all the 70-up small body cars, but the lower control arm is different on earlier models. I believe you will need a 69 or older V-8 x-member.

I swapped a 360 into a 64 American. You can use the the grem/spirit/concord... cross member. You will need to change the radiator, if using a turbo 400 you will probably have to custom build a trans x member, if you want the rear to last you will need to swap to a better rear end. Wiring will also have to be modified. Hope this info helps. email me at scottsds(AT)yahoo.com if you have any questions, or check out www.scottsamc.iniowa.org and go to my page about my American.
