I am rebuilding the 1976 401 in "Frankenbolt". I want a honest 400 HP out of this thing. Whats its gonna take and how do I get there. How much Bulltear gear can I use? MY first rebuild on a amc. Looking forward to getting this "thang", up and running. Thanks for the advice in advance. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sharig63/album?.tok=ph57BhBBi7kV72kQ&.dir=/3fcd&.src=ph

Check out the latest issue of Car Craft! There is a stout mutipage 401 buildup! Made 480+ Horsepower and 500 Lb Ft of torque with factory dogleg heads ported, Indy Intake Lunati Cam, and 10: 01 Pistons!! The cam is relatively mild compared to other 401 buildups I have read about on other websites and some of those used aluminum heads and still can't post the numbers that this 401 in Car Craft put down with ported doglegs! AMC had the best heads going! The article proves that aluminum heads arent needed on AMC motors to make big power! I'd rather spend the money on cam and valvetrain and oiling system upgrades as shown in the article. I was glad to see the article in a mainly "big three" feature publication, now all those Chevy guys can see how AWESOME AMC iron has always been and still IS!! Thanks Car Craft for puttin them in thar place =D>

You can also try looking in the engine section I believe I put up a recipe for a 450hp 401. 400 ponies isnt hard with a AMC V8.
