When taking the water pump off to fix the dreaded cam gear problem on the AMC 304 I noticed the internal water pump blades had rubbed against the timing cover. It was a new water pump but when I inspected it for problems it appears as if the blades could be on crooked. I will buy another water pump but my question is can I double the gasket to give more clearance? :-|

New pump should have a warranty shouldn't it?

What causes this is the front bearing or inner bearing failing and causing the impeller shaft to walk in a little rubbing on the timing cover...a new pump should take care of that but if it was new heck yeah warrantee that pupper :sa:
