OK, It's finally making progress.
I've got the heads done - waiting my roller rockers
Had a hell of a time getting the dizzy gear off the cam, yeah, I broke it :(:
http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/Busted-cam-gear.JPG

So I wound up taking it all out together!!

http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/Cam_%26_timing_set.JPG

http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/Timing_chain_%26_cam.JPG

So I FINALLY got the crank out, and did the oil mod drilling the mains out to .339 (if this doesn't work MC, you owe me a block!!!) I stuck a bit in there to see the angle before just making that TiN bit chew up my block

http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/Crank_oiling-2.JPG

Drilled the last 4 mains leaving the front timing chain one un-drilled
If you look close, you can see drillings where the bearings should be.

http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/Mains_post_drilling.JPG

Now to get this all to the machine shop, have it acid dipped, crank ground and cross drilled, cylenders bored (probably .30), new pistons, cam, etc ... and get it put together.

:t: I bet your greasy now :?:
Sweaty yes, greasy nah  After that I had to settle my nerves and machined up a couple engine lift links - that's when Jack came over =D>

We went down and looked at a Waggie that I'm picking up TODAY!! Everything but the engine, tranny, x-fer. Seats are ragged, but it's all power (seats, windows, locks ...)

Mudrat,

Sounds like the waggie worked out for you. :lo1l:

Hey,

Is that the original nylon tooth timing gear? How loose was your timing chain? My 74,000 OM 343 had almost 2" of deflection :!: I bought a rollmaster with a torrington bearing...nice piece!

What was the condition of your pistons/bores?

Hey Pat,
Don't forget to get the little key way guys out of the crank - so your gonna need to get that dizzsy gear off. Trust me, heating it up then spraying a little penetrant oil on it (heat will draw it in) will help in removing them. Also don't loose the keyway from the crank, either!

Well, I finally brought that POS home and got it in the press.

http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/10tons%2B.jpg

Cranking down on a 20 ton shop press I was afraid I was either going to bust the socket, break the new bearing puller or have success!!!

It was SUCCESS!!! But very near the "I don't want to crank down any more" thoughts

http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/Finally.jpg

Now that I have the only piece I needed - the fuel eccentric. I looked at the cam lobes ...

http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/Bad-lobes.jpg

Wasn't filled with confidence and think I did right with the new cam and a line bore. There were 4 that looked like this...

http://members.cox.net/mudrat-jeeper/Bad-lobes-2.JPG

Now to get it all to the engine shop for a bath, bore, and balance...

So THAT'S what this thing is supposed to look like :lo1l: (well, a few silly
milli-meters smaller) :-|

Tried to crank up the pressure washer this weekend and all I got were blisters  I think I have a stuck float or something??? 5.5HP Honda OHV. It'll have to wait till I get back from Charleston - again.

Well it may not be as "smaller" than I thought. Now that I have it stripped down to parade rest, all the parts in hand or on the way, I finally got it to the shop and what did we findout??? :-|

THIS SUCKER IS ALREADY 40 OVER!!!
It's going to cost me a hot tank to see if the block is salvageable after all the rust that was in the cylinders

Glad I didn't pre-order those .030 pistons from ya MC #-o

Jeeze, I'm going to have to either salvage this block or find a buildable one - got too many danged parts for a 360!!!

Nah look at the brite side, everything else you got will work for any AMC. :?: timing set, timing cover, heads, intake, cam bearings ect. doubt you got rods and mains yet since you probably were looking at turning it anyways. .40 over damn man that sucks

fear not 401's are still hiding out there. and can be had reasonable just keep the eyes open and the finger tips in good shape for feeling out that AMC brail

hopefully the taper is minimal and you can just go with .40 pistons

good luck keep us posted

Well Rob may be able to help me out. He was given a 360 when he bought a Dodge Colt (or Neon or something like that) Wouldn't THAT be a screamer - a 360 in a Colt
Anyway called him last night to see what it would take to get it out of his garage. If it's rebuildable, I'll strip it down and let the shop have that one to build off of.
