Dont know if this is anything you would want to make or not. But I need a 1/4in thick spacer to fit between the hub and the steering knuckle so I can do the WJ brake swap on my YJ. You can put the late model knuckles off a WJ grand cherokee and get larger better brakes. But, in order to bolt everything together you need a 1/4in spacer between knuckle and the hub to make it work on older model D-30's Here is a pic of the flange

here is a pic of the knuckle with the spacer welded on.

The only place that makes them (that I can find) wants $30 each for them, I was wondering if you guys could make them any cheaper. Like I said, I dont know if this is anything yall would want to do or not, but I figured I would ask.

how big is that opening? and how far apart are the holes. It almost looks like a collector gasket would work. They may be a little soft though and crush down over time. I am not sure how much pressure would be on them

I would think a collector gasket (if it did fit) wouldn't work very well. We're talking about the steering knuckle that will have lots of dynamic pressure on it  I'd rather have the 1/4" steel IF I were to do this.

yeah i realize that. That picture is just for referance, and I was not sure where this spacer is going. I am ASSuming it is so the axle has enough clearence in the hub, and was unsure if this is something to between the knuckle and hub area, or actually the knuckle itself.

the above picture is actually a steel core gasket, but also it does not look like it would be that hard to make with a hole saw and drill bit

You need the spacer because the WJ knuckles are 1/4in shallower from balljoint centerline to where the hub bolts to it. If you were to try and bolt the hub/axleshaft assembly onto the knuckle without the spacer the axleshaft would bottom out in the diff and if you tightend down the bolts major damage would occur. The spacer needs to be made of metal and it also need to be welded to the knuckle. The second pic is a knuckle with the spacer already welded onto it. I would NOT use a gasket for it, only steel and only with it welded to the knuckle. Here is a pic of one of my knuckles and hub assembly. the spacer goes in between them.

As for the measurement I am not sure, they need to be pretty exact and all I have is a cheap tape measure. If you could get your hands on a hub assemble from a YJ, TJ,XJ, or any of the model jeeps with the hub assemblys, they are all the same. If you want to read a little bit about this swap go here: http://www.americanjeepers.com/articles/12/1/WJ-Brake-and-Knuckle-Conversion-for-YJ?s Thats a pretty good writeup.

Edit: cut the pic size down for ya Mudrat

Hey, Jeeps and Guns - nice pic and good explanation. One favor if I could ask it, please knock the size down on the pics to no more than 2.5" wide or <180 pixles. This helps the dial-up folks see things in a timely manner and also prevents the need to scroll sideways to see what your showing.

You pic above comes across as 14.22" inches wide

Thanks. :t:

I cant find the edit button, how can I go back and change it? I dont have a decent way to resize pics on my computer without makeing them look disorted. Next time I will post a link if I cant resize them and just give a warning to dialup users. If you want I can take the pic down. ---Jared
