I read in the new JP mag about them installing a petronix unit in his flathead 4 banger willys. Anyone used one on an AMC V8 to get rid of points?

I had one in my AMX. It did work well, much better than the points. I had some other distributor problems and swapped in a Mallory Unilite.

One thing you have to watch with the 1st gen Pertrinix is that you don't leave the key in the "ON" position with the engine not running. They will overheat and burn out. I guess that's been addresses with the new Pertronix II.

I have used the pertronix on 2 vehicles, A 67 Ford p/u with a 352 V-8 and a 258 6 both were reliable and really helped with hard starting.. there was a small performance increase on the ford and slight mileage gain.

Overall I have been using the mallory hyfire sytems on the Amc v-8's and really recommend it. but if you are looking for simple reliable swap for the ponts the pertronix is the ticket.
