This is driving me nuts and i can't find a source to verify this.

I have two T18B's with model 20 t-cases i counted the rotations on both.

one is a short shaft converted tranny and it has the 6.32:1 first gear.

The second one came out of a J20 long input stock never had been out and it too has a 6.32:1 1st gear

the problem is all the resources i find say the T-18B is a 4.02:1 1st gear and i want to know why some T-18B's have the low gears stock and what applications they came in.

Novak says it isnt possible that they must have been changed out but the J20 was a 1 owner rig

You can't really rely on the numbers cast into the outside of the case, the cases are the same, and I'm sure they just put the guts in whatever cases they had on the assembly line at the time. If it's never been apart, there should be a small metal tag under one of the top cover bolts. That's the number you need to use to verify/order parts for the gearbox. It should have a number like 013-xxxx on it.

sounds like good reasoning to me, yes the tag is still on it
