I've swapped out my 258 and put in a 304. I have an 86 CJ, but the motor is now a 78 304. my problem is the pressure hose on the pump side will not go in. it has a different fitting. any one have a solution to this? i can't find anyone to custom make the hose. i can't even find anyone to flare the metal line. i cut off the 86 hose and tried to use my brake flare tool but no luck. do i need to find the mystery hose or is there another pump i need to buy?
TIA

I think the 78 has a flare fitting and the 86 is a o-ring fitting try to change the fitting that goes in to the pump with the one you need from the right year PS pump

ok, i understand what you're saying, but do i need to open the pump housing or will it just extract out from the outside? i'm a power steering pump illiterate. and you're right on the fitting types.

would be best to pull the pump off the motor - drain it and unscrew it from the can there should be a o-ring that help seal it on the fitting

fuzz, you're friggin awsome dude. ive spent all day calling vendors and mfg's trying to get the right parts that aren't made. you give me a solution that took about 5 minutes to do. i can't thank you enough. i owe you a beer...or two or three or whatever. thanks again.

I will take Fuzz's beer since he doesnt drink  I have done that in the past and wondered why they ever went to the o ring style

wow, all i did was swap out the pumps, but ive also just swapped out the fitting on customers pump as well. 8)

all in all its probably the same amount of work either way.

the pump from the 258 would not work on my 304. i tried it and the brackets and holes are not the same. changing the fittings was so easy. i didn't even have to remove the pump from the brackets. again fuzz, thanks a million.
