My 1976 Jeep CJ-7 has a freshly rebuilt 360 in it. Somewhere in time, before I bought the jeep, a previous owner updated it with electronic ignition. By looking at pictures of other 360's and by looking at manuals, I came to the conclusion that some of the brackets were missing. It has the triangular shaped bracket on the timing cover that holds the pivot bolt at the top of the alternator. That bolt was replaced with a square head bolt, I dont know why. The only other bracket is the one on the bottom of the alternator that has the slide in it. It it bolted near the bottom of the timing cover. It appears that I have all of the necessary spacer bushings. I looked at a dealer assembly drawing and it had two more brackets shown but I could not tell where they went. The dealer told me that he could not even order one of the brackets and there were two different on the other bracket. But the book did not say what the difference was. I dont know what I'm missing for sure and I cant locate a junk yard with any AMC 360's. Anybody have a few pictures of that area?

Thanks,

Carlos

CJs and Wagoneers used the same brackets, it doesn't even have to be a 360, any AMC V-8 will work. The only difference in brackets will depend on if the vehicle had A/C or not. Even then, you could get the A/C style brackets (and 3 row pulleys) for a future on-board air project.

 Now for the shameless plug. MC here at Bulltear makes a neat custom alternator bracket. Look in the products section.

I see the brackets on those pictures. The one in the first picture that appears to be a z bracket is the one I really need the measurements for. The other bracket is going to a bolt that may or may not be on my alternator. I can't be sure just yet. I looked at two other Jeep V-8 engines and they did not have any additional brackets. Is there anyway that you can get accurate measurements on that piece so that I can duplicate it?

:-| Hmm, I appear to be missing a couple brackets.... Come to think of it, I never saw them on any of my three different AMC V8's though....
