Crankshaft question

I have a 360 crankshaft that has grown some rust while sitting around waiting for a home. I remember something from a metallurgy class some years ago about intergranular corrosion in ferrous metals which has me worried about cleaning it up and using it.
Anybody out there ever clean up a rusty crankshaft and use it?

best thing have it check for size if any thing it might be able to be polished
