As some of you might know, I am building a 401 for my CJ7.

I am nearing the decision making point of getting an intake & carb and wondered if ya'll had any suggestions.

The options I am considering are:

R4B with an edelbrock 600cfm (or nearest cfm to 600)

Performer w/ same carb

Offenhauser 360 dual 4bbl w/ 2 Holley 390 +/- cfm carbs

Obviously the "cool factor" goes to the Offy, but realistically, can I do a 400+ hp motor justice with either of the other two setups? I want this to be maintenence free as possible but dont want to hurt my HP too much.

Also, If anyone has any nice, good looking valve covers for sale, let me know. I like the e-brock aluminum ones but $200 is a bit more than I want to spend.

Thanks

Dave

Don't use the 600. I had a 600 on my Javelin with a 343 and it didn't have enough to let the engine perform how it should. DEFINATELY go with the 750 if it's 360 or 401.

I would think the air gap intake and a 750 carb

nice, good looking valve covers = $$$$$

I went with an air gap and holley 670 avenger with a 270H comp cam for my 360 going into a yj. Haven't ran it in the jeep yet, but it looked good on the dyno sheet. Good numbers down low and pulled hard to 5800 rpm. 355 hp and 385 ft.lbs with the stock exhaust manifolds.

Which lifters are you going to install?

This engine was already built and ran on an engine dyno not a desk top. The lifters came with the cam. Just haven't had the time to get it in the jeep so it can give me more enjoyment then staring at it on the garage floor.
