AMC rod journals offset ground to 1.89(honda) from stock using newer style honda journal rods with a 6" length .927 pin.

401 Bore 4.195 (.030 over)Makes a 446.5CI motor

Rods
Eagle #CRS6000HJ
Manley #14344 or #15564
Carillo #H6000SB927C06

1.346 Compression height pistons(for maintaining stock height on a 401 block) {1-11/32" would be close enough)

Same rods on a 360 crank offset ground on the rods to 1.89(honda) Bore 4.130 (.050 over 360)Makes a 390.5CI motor

1.456 Compression height pistons (for maintaining stock height on a 360 block) {1-15/32 would be close enough)

Now the AMC 304 at .050 with these rods would yeild a 330CI stroked motor. Some run at .125 over stock bore and that would yeild a 344CI motor.

1.486 Compression height pistons (for maintaining stock height on a 304 block) {1-31/64 would be close enough)

This calls for custom pistons because of the non standard compression height. We found Diamond piston to offer the best price on custom pistons so far and choices of alloys. They are located in Michigan.

So what kind of overheating problems will we see while on the street 8)
I'm digging it though

Well for the overbores it is possible on the 360 to have heat problems but rarely on a .030 401 and rarely on a .125 overbore 304

Define what the meaning of "mean" is!!!!

You want high revs, low end torque, rock crawler competition or what!!!!

To me, a "mean" stroker would be a 9,000 RPM 304 to 360 (de-stroked 401 crank) inch that puts out 700+ HP, something like the T/A or Pro-Stock builds.

Or, you could increase the stroke and drop the revs for torque. Can't have it both ways & no gains w/o losses elsewhere.

Many use AMC stroker combinations in drag racing and crawling. You can make engines to wind to over 10 grand but reliable hp, deck height..ect ect on a AMC V8 and possible combinations write the guidelines. Mean would be more than 700hp. Look at the AMX Hemmy Adtkins has. He makes 800hp reliably with a 290 block and Indy heads and a stroked 390 crank. You can achieve some hefty numbers with various combos but to get up there in horsepower you will have to increase the stroke. 4.5" bore is just about the max you can do with a AMC block having a bore spacing spaced at 4.75" and thats block filling and sleeving.

My definition of mean is 380hp to 1500hp.
