This car is as close to a factory race car as AMC ever made. It was owned by a guy named Frank Lipare of Long Island NY. Frank worked for AMC in the Elmsford, NY office which at the time was AMC's headquarters. Frank was a manager in the Field Service Department. This car was snatched off the assembly line and prepared for SCCA B Production racing in 1970. It raced at Lime Rock Conn and Bridgehampton, Long Island. I first saw the car in 1975 at Frank's house in Manhassett Long island. It was 1975 and I had just bought my first AMX. I was 17. I had called AMC looking for information on hopping up my AMX. Local guys were into Chevy's, Dodges and Fords but no one had AMC knowledge. It was AMC that turned me on to Frank. The motor was built by Speedwin Automotive in Baldwin Long Island. there was also a guy named Jocko that Frank nemtioned. Any how the car was out dated for SCCA B Production by 1973 and was used little at time trials and some club racing. I went with Frank a few times to Bridgehampton in 1976, 77 and 79. I bought the car in 1981 and converted it for street use. That means I put headlights, street tires and wipers in in. I street drove it and street raced it around North Jersey from 1981 to 1985. It's got a 1970 390, Venolia pistons with like 11.5 to 1 I think, a Reed roller cam, forget the specs but the lift was ariund .660, custom pan, Accusump, iron heads with port work, by the way it does not have the oil valley mod and this car ran sustained high RPM without ever spinning any bearings. It cuttently has a T-10, Dana 44, Airheart brakes. Has not run in years and has been in storage.

Some unique history you got for that '70 AMX you have there.
Have you ever visited www.ssamx.com ?
It's a SS/AMX registry kinda sight, they have 39 of 52 located.
They have a section for "SS-like" cars also.
Wonder if your's would "qualify" ?
It coild be the ONLY '70 SS/cc/AMX
