I have two alternators and want to wire two batteries. will i need any special isolators or will i be able to just wire one alternator to each battery and be able to have two seperate charging/electrical systems.

short answer :yes, but why?

what are you trying to do? why would you want two electric systems? are you thinking one for winch or comm. equipment and one for everything else?

if you parellel the two batt.s and two alter.s then i think you would be better off no matter what you're doing.

I'm also interested in this... I know that some military vehicles run duel batteries and alternators...
Here is a site that I'm currently looking at.

I want a redundant system with two seperate charging systems. one would run the normal electrical system and the other would be for the winch. they would also be able to self jump start and double up for more amperage if needed.

simpliest would isolate the two alt to each batt. including exciter fields. i would also suggest a parallel line between the two positive post with a disconnect, for use to self jump and if the winch batt gets low.

would i need to use isolators or would i be able to wire one alternator to each battery and put a disconnect between the batteries.
