I just bought me an amc 401 for my cj7. I want to rebuild the engine completely and I'm looking now for a recipe for 400hp and already a massive torque at low rpms. So I need new pistons, bearings, cam, valves, valve seats, etc....
I want to place chevy valves in the stock heads and a cr of 10,5:1. I will drive on LPG (mixture of propane and butane). The engine may turn max 6000rpms. Is this a dream or is this realisable? :?

Already thanks for your reply!!! :t:

I want to say that propane the guys who really build propane motors are using something like 12:1 CR or slightly higher.

A pro can feel free to chime in. And then also something about the grind on the cam being longer on intake duration and shorter on exhaust but i cant remember. anyways cool idea

I'd agree that propane loves high compression ratios. Just make sure your injection system can supply enough propane to support that much power.

cr can't be 12:1 because sometime it must run on gasoline, 10,5 is enough for a gasoline with an octanenumber of 95 or 98.
So I first want to build a strong engine that will run on gasoline that afterwards will be switched on propane.

You guys have 95-98 octane over there? Best we see around here at the pump is 93.

i want to say that dynamic compression is a major factor when dealing with propane to get "Serious Power" so your camsaft choice is going to be different based on gasoline or propane. thought retrofits are available they do result in power loss from gas to propane due to the lower energy level BTU's of the propane.

Somebody who is more familiar with LPG hopefully will chime in
