i had my stock heads drilled and tapped to accept a 7/16' stud to add guide plates and roller tip rockers.....however i did not know that i needed to have the bosses ground down.....ive read that they need to be took down .250" instead i put in a longer pushrod to accomodate the diffrence in height....however more and more reading i dont think this will work very well.....is this right .250"...if so im gonna have to pull the heads off and have them ground....also if i take .250" off will i be able to use a stock size pushrod or will i still have to get one that is a little longer.....i need all the help i can get this is the first motor i am building and im starting to think i should have just stuck with the stock bridged rockers.....however it is to late for that...........

Usually around a quarter of an inch PLUS the height (Thickness)of the guide plate.

Milling .250" + the thickness of the guide plate should put you very close to a stock length pushrod. To get the tip centered on the valve on my '69 390 (using 70 heads), I had to use a +.100 over stock pushrod (7.90" ?). I used Crane Gold roller rockers. Stock length pushrod on an AMC is the same as SBC, so other sizes are easy to get. Remember to get hardened pushrods specifically built for guide plates, or you'll end up with metal shavings in your engine.

I was able to use SBC +.100 length chrome moly pushrods.
Got them from PAW out of California.
Part Number PR-777, 7.894 long, guideplate compatible, ~$60.

BullTear offers stock pushrods or ones with reduced oil hole size
to help keep so much oil from going up onto the heads.
Small hole ones description doesn't give the length or if hardened though.
