rather than running heavier springs I'd prefer to run a Rev Kit -
in the lifter valley.

it's old school - but takes the weight of the lifter off the valve
springs - and that makes sense.

I've never heard of this before, please elaborate!

“ULTRA REV KITS” • ROLLER TAPPET (PATENTED) Isky Invention
Invented by Isky in 1958, the original "ULTRA-REV KIT" has now
been copied by most other cam grinders.

A tribute to Isky's
Engineering Designs.

The "ULTRA REV-KIT" is engineered to increase engine RPM and
prolong roller tappet bearing life by pre-loading the roller tappets to
the cam lobe (eliminating stop-start "Skidding".)

Pre-load springs are held in place by lightweight aluminum retaining
bars which install beneath the cylinder head (a drop-in installation).

Special Note:
Included with every set of 1241-series Roller Lifters is a package of P/N 200-RTW Roller Tappet Washers, designed to protect your
Roller Lifters from Rev-Spring “chaffing”.

They are also available for sale in replacement form as well. P/N 200-RTW...set of sixteen (16)
pieces.

ULTRA REV KIT: A device designed by Ed lskenderian .to preload the roller tappet to the camshaft to allow higher rpm. The kit consists of 2 plates which are located on each side of the valley chamber and a spring for each roller tappet. The springs fit between the roller tappet and the valley plate.

Isky doesn't make 'Spring mounting Plates' for AMC -
but has all the 'other' items necessary:

Go to the Isky site - 'Online Catalog' - it'll open .pdf - go to:

rev kits pg.23

CRANE CAMS has all the parts for their previous AMC 'Solid Roller Lifter Rev Kit' - available - except the 'Spring Plates' - .

A rev kit for an AMC V-8 would be an excellent new product idea. I will buy the first one !

As an added benefit I think that the rev kit will keep the lifter from popping out of the bore and uncovering the oil galley in the case of a valvetrain failure.

ok, estimate on making billet spring plates patterned from the cast crane ones is 180-200 for a pair, if we can get several sets pre sold.
thats just the spring plates.
if we could get several commitments for them that would be nice.
it will cost quite a bit to make the jig and do the program just to do 1 or 2.
shoot me e mails if your are serious about these.

we are currently working on a 2 piece amc valve cover also.
let me know if anyone hads interest in these as well.

thanx rick wyman

Tech Tips - [quote]

AMC V-8 Rollers:

When installing a roller cam and lifters in an AMC V-8, make sure you pay attention to your lifters and their bores.

You want to make sure that your oil relief band (on the lifter) is not coming out of the bore.

This in not common, but it does happen due to a core shift when the block is made.

If the relief band is coming out of the bore, you will lose oil pressure to the top of your engine.

The fix for this is to change the base circle size on the cam, thus reducing the height at which your lifter sits!

This will allow the oil to stay in the lifter gallery and travel through the lifter, instead of lying in the valley of the block.

[end CRANE CAMS quote]
