I've been going through my list to get ready to assemble my motor this weekend. I think I have everything I need covered.

But it occured to me that I know little about harmonic balencers. I know their purpose and how they work, but do they go bad? How do you tell? The balencer I have is the original 1976 460 ford(lincon) unit.

Yep, they have the potential to go bad. It's usually from someone wacking on it to get it on the crank, or prying on it improperly to remove it. You can tell when they're bad, they wobble like crazy.

most of the stock ones are just a rubber isolator between the two rings. most people ruin them when they take them off with a gear puller or put them on with a hammer.
