new engine, hei dizzy. I have been getting a cold miss. Last time i was home i put a timing light on #1 plug wire as usual and i wasnt getting a consistan light. Once the jeep warms up it seems to run fine. so im not sure if its a fuel problem or what. Other wires i was, so i am suspecting that i may have a bad wire/plug. i also get a little sputtering under load at about 2000 rpm, im thinking that its more fuel in that situation.

as for the cold miss check the all the plug wires and make sure you don't have any burn thru's. as for the sputtering under load not sure about that one but i would check the pressure
coming from the fuel pump to carb.

I had the same problem on my Jeep. Turned out to be a cracked porcelain on a plug. Ran fine when hot, but had a dead miss if you put any load on it cold.

I got chevy V8 wires. one of those universal cut to length kits but I'm also running an HEI dizzy. they fit pretty well a few of the wires are a little shorter than they should be but it works.

If you still have a socket style cap, you can get AutoLite wires
at Advanced Auto Parts for $25 made to length.
AutoLite Part #96074 are "Proffesional" Series 7mm
and Part #86074 are "Pro-Fit" 7.5mm.
These are those listed for AMC's from '68 to '76, strait cap boots.
Set actually comes with (10 ) Leads including coil wire.
AutoLite aso lists #96627, #96628, #96631 as for AMC/Jeeps
but the #96074 & #86074 sets are the longest.
All AutoLites #86xxx sets are 7.5mm Pro-Fit & #96xxx are 7mm Proffesional.

oh forgot to mention im running a hei distributor.

oh and where do most people run their vaccume advance. i have mine pointing straight forward. so the little nipple sticks out between the power steering belt. then i have a 90* bend for clearance.

Vacuum Advance should be positioned crossways
pointing towards Drivers side or a little back towards firewall.
Number 1 on the cap should be at pretty much front and center.

figured out the miss problem, carb was just a little loose and it mush have been sucking air until it warmed up and expanded.

also i was wondering if anyone has any pics of their HEI setup. Id like to see how everyone has wires routed and where the advance goes.

I've also got an HEI setup on my 304 but i got it from Performance Distributors or as others say a DUI dist. and i also opted for their premade and numbered Livewire set......but i think i was paying for the name and looks on them :-|
Oh yea.....as far as where you've got you vac. advance.......same way with mine right out front almost touching the power steering belt. I tried to run it in diff positions but i coul'dt get it to fit right any other way so i dropped her in and said the hell with it cause i dont need to adjust timing that often.....

yea i couldnt get mine to fit any other way so i went that route and put a little 90* rubber bend on the advance. as far as wires go. we decided to buy bulk wire and make wires. between my jeep and my brothers jeeps it will pay itself off
