I've been reading where some CAM Manufacturers are building a CAM for both small block and large block Chevy that swap the #4 Cylinder for the #7 Cylinder in the firing order.
They claim more horsepower by better air flow and smoother running/less vibration.

Here is a Cut and Paste from Lunati's site:

"The 4/7 firing order SWAP configuration decreases crankshaft deflection, delivers a smoother torque curve, and aids acceleration. 4/7 SWAP Camshafts also provide an incremental horsepower gain in the engine. 4/7 SWAPS were track tested in a wide variety of applications and all results were improvements over the standard firing order. Dyno results have shown a 3 to 12 HP gain with the SWAP. The only change that must be made to the engine is to swap the 4 and 7 plug wires to reflect the alternate firing sequence."

My questions:
Can a 4/7 Swap work on an AMC 360/401 V8?
What applications are best this 4/7 swap? Go-Fast Car? Trucks?

I heard it was for better fuel distribution on a carbed motor. With the 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 firing order, the 5-7 being sequential made the cylinders lean out (a mute point with SEFI).

With 1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2, fuel distribution is more equal.

I've heard that you can get that grind for AMC's from a couple of the custom grinders (Reed comes to mind).

It will work on any V-8 with that firing order. Generally the cams are kind of pricey (look at double). The dollar/HP gain becomes a consideration.
