View Full Version : AMC block blueprint dimensions
I am looking for the bellhousing bolt pattern for the back of a 401 engine block, along with the crank centerline. I need to make an adaptor plate to run the engine on the dyno, and cannot get my hands on a bellhousing to reverse engineer the dimensions to get something cut on a waterjet machine.
Can Anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks,
rb

can you use the back of the block to get your dimensions. Should be the same as measuring from a bellhousing.
In the past, for the oddball engines I cannot find a blueprint for, I just get a bellhousing and put it on the mill, then using a finger type dial indicator, I go to each bolt hole and dial in the centerline in relation to the crank centerline, using the digital readout on the mill, it is a piece of cake.
I would have a hard time fitting a block on the mill, in the standing position, and on top of that, the engine is already together.
It was suggested I ask here, as I was told there are some sharp AMC engine specialists here... one in particular 69bubblefender I think is his handle,

That blueprint would help me out as well!:lo1l:
As I understand it - a 4.0 JEEP bell housing fits the AMC
V8 cyl.block - .

I think your thinking the 258 AMC bellhousing
4.0 bell bolts to a 258 - have to compensate for the
convertor depth tho.
