I'm in the process of installing power steering in my 76 CJ5, 304. I have the P/S pump and brackets from what I was told is a 78 Waggy. Was wondering if there is a picture on the board of the bracketry installed on an engine. I can see where the back half of the pump bracket bolts to the heads but not sure how the forward half (part in front of the pump) attaches to the engine. I'm thinking I might have a piece missing. I did a little searching for a pic. but didn't find anything.

Wow that would be great guys :lo1l: You'll have to be patient with me. If it isn't a SBC or an air cooled VW I'm lost. :-|

Here you go... the bracket/adjuster you see on the bottom are for a smog pump.
It's important that the bracket end on the water pump bolt have about a 1/8" spacer under it or the front bracket will crack.

Just to rub it in, the engine is a 60K original mile running 401 that I pulled from a 77 Wagoneer. All virgin and never rebuilt. I got it for only $75. Someone wanted the iron spreadbore manifold, I sold it for $25. :!:

Hey thanks for the pictures. I mounted up the rear half of the bracket this afternoon and then held up the front half in place. Sure enough the hole on the end lined up with the upper water pump bolt (DOH) Looks like I now need to get a longer bolt and make a spacer. I won't be needing the smog pump parts. This motor has been de-smogged

You can see in the second pic that the water pump bolt actually has a stud above the nut (and that spacer). If you're going to just use 1 long bolt, you'll need a spacer that is taller. About the height of the nut + lock washer + 1/8" spacer.
Glad it helped.

My camera flash washed out the dial face on the indicator but it reads right at .600 for the spacer I'll need. I'll have to stretch the bolt out to 5.75".

Ha, Funny story about the color selection. The original color was blue, Not typical AMC blue but a little darker and it reminded me of Ford. There was no way I was having an engine that reminded me of Ford. I'm a SBC guy but have reserved the color orange for Chevies. I thought red would be a good way to go then. (that engine is actually redder that the picture shows) Anyway..after I got it all painted and was about to throw the can in the trash, I look on the bottom of the back of the can and it says "FORD RED" #-o

The 360 in my CJ is red, just VHT red, not FORD red. The T/A Javelins had red engine blocks. I tell everyone it's a T/A block.

Aye, was hard to find the AMC Blue engine paint in Canada.
Managed to get it but it was $15 a can!
Still worth it though. I really wouldn't have been happy without it. Must have been the influence of all these AMC forums I browsed before I rebuilt her. ;)

I always liked the 1968 AMC engine color Caravelle Blue. :t:
Anyone got one of those front P/S to Water Pump brackets to sale ?
I have the one that goes on the head, but am missing the front one.

Check ebay occasionally. I just scored a a/c compressor bracket for my on-board air. I know I've seen p/s pump brackets on there.
