Hi there, I´m planing the rebuild of the 360 in my CJ7. It came from a ´80 waggy, with the Motorcraft 2100
i would like to hear your opinion in what mods should I do to it, and what to avoid. It is a trail only rig, and usually it sees some mud and heavy trails in Costa Rican warm weather... realiability is the main concern, but I´d like to have some more power

What intake, cam, carb, should I use?
Pistons, rings, valve springs, etc?

I have summitracing headers, MSD 6a, Accel cables, k/n, hi-flow waterpump that will reuse.

Thanks for your help

On my 360, bottom end is bone stock. No bore and factory pistons. It was honed and re-ringed, and new bearings put in about 40K miles ago. I have 291C heads on it that have been ported, polished, and gasket matched (compression around 8.75-9:1). I run roller rockers. I have the complete Edelbrock performer package on it (cam, lifters, roller timing chain, springs, and manifold). I run Howell TBI fuel injection on it.

With final drive of 72:1 (T-18 trans, Dana 300 t-case and 4.27 gears), it can sit at idle and spin all 4 tires if it can't find traction (lockers in both ends). I'm quite satisfied with the off-road performance of this setup. A conservative estimate is 325 HP.

Thanks for the info...
here is what I have in mind for the moment (part no. from summit):

Carb: EDL-1405 600 cfm Performer (good price, good performance)
Intake: EDL-2131 Performer Dual Plane
Cam: (not sure about this) EDL-2132 Advertised Duration 278/288, Lift .448/.472
Timing chain: SUM-G6618 Timing Chain and Gear Set, True Roller, Double Roller, Steel Sprockets
Springs: EDL-4431 Valve Springs, Single, 1.364 in. Outside Diameter, 93 lb. Seat Pressure
Pushrods: CRN-11660-16 Pushrods, Energizer, Steel, 5/16 in. Diameter, 7.818 in. Length, Ball Ends, Hardened (is this lenght ok, should I use shorter ones?)

I need to determine pistons and piston rings, info welcomed

Can't tell on the pushrods until you assemble the engine. On my 360, I run factory length, on my 390, I had to run +.100 longer pushrods, both with the same roller rockers.

It depends on what kind of surfacing is done on the block and heads. It won't matter too much if you're running factory rockers, you just want the tip of the roller centered on the valve stem.
