Went to drop the motor in and found that the brackets that mount to the frame are the exact same brackets I that I initially had w/ the 258. These are the ones I bought off Ebay.
I need a clear answer as to exactly which is different, pass side or driver side? I have the driver side mounted on the frame and the motor. But the passenger side is way to wide. Sticks outside the frame. I can post pics as soon as I get finished with dinner.

Been working on it since 9am this morning hopeing to have it running. Finally decided to quit. Tired and pissed!

Anyway. Thanks for the help.

Passenger side needs to be changed for a V8...sad to hear that you may have been fooled.

I already e-mail the guy from ebay. I even have the ad saved in my eba account. It clearly says "304/360 frame mounts".

I dought he'll do anything to fix the problem......

Rick,

The right frame side of the motor mount should have an additional hole over the 258 bracket. The left side is identical from the 258 to the V8 application. Unfortunately, these are only available to us as a set and therefore, they are sold as a set.

Thanks and let us know if you have any questions.

Here's a link to a thread on the same topic, with some pics. You have to be careful of trying to reuse the 258 mount. Even if you drill some new holes to accept the different bolt pattern on the V8 cushion, the "humps" on the face of the 258 frame mount don't allow the cushion to sit flat and it ends up bearing on only two narrow areas.

You linked him back to a thread He started =D> 8)

The 258 brackets and the V8 brackets look very similiar dimensionally. i had the same question when i recieved a set of used mounts i bought from someone. When i opened the box, I was on the phone immediately asking him what the hell he thought he was doing sending me 4.2 brackets. He assured me they were V8 brackets and after seing some pictures on this site and carefully measureing, they were correct.

:? I thought the same thing. But let it slide.
I'll go out and take a couple pics now and post them in a bit. Maybe I need different block mounts? The block mounts are from the waggy....

Ha, ha. Didn't even catch that. I mainly was trying to get to those pics I posted of the V8 mount. I should snap a pic of the 258 and V8 side by side, and the two cushions side by side too, to show the differences. Now, if I can just remember what I did with the 258 mount....

I can modify if necessary.
My wife is going to e-mail the pics to me and I will post them (I'm at work).
I think my problem may be that I have the wrong block mounts....

Where's those pics? Not sure what you mean by "the passenger side is way too wide...sticks outside the frame".

Since we still don't have our engine back, I could easily snap a couple pics of our motor mounts all set up on the frame, if that would help you out.

You do need the CJ specific block mounts. The Wagoneer mounts will be too short. CJ block mounts are square, the Wagoneer mounts more triangular.

My concern is that I have the wrong block mounts????? But your pic may help if it includes the block mounts bolted up....(frame, bracket, motor mount, then block mount)

THATS the problem. I have the triangluar waggy block mounts!

So are the CJ block mounts "closer" to the block?

Those are definitely Wagoneer block mounts. The CJ style are square, with the front and back edges straight up/down. The CJ style are taller, so the engine sits higher in the frame.

See the correct block side here:

Thanks for all the help. Now I just need to locate the block mounts. Someone responded to my wanted ad...I think he wanted $65 plus shipping.

Nope, sorry, the block mounts are still on the block at the machine shop (at least I hope they are!).
