the pcv valve on my 258 has two nipples that come off of it....on has a hose to the carb the other is open...if i put my finger over it or cap it it kills the motor faster then turning the key....someone please explain why this would happen........

Umm been a long time since I messed with a 258 but I can tell you that if you have a nipple open ot the air with vacum it's wrong.. you probably have the idle set low because of the leak and when you put your finger over it it shuts off the air at an idle..

well i shouldnt say that there are vacume leaks becuase there isnt...just one of the nipples on the pcv vavle is open....so when that second valve gets blocked it shuts right off....its weird because on my old 258 i had the second nipple capped off and i cant do that on this motor.............

That's what Goose is saying, the uncapped pcv nipple is a HUGE vacuum leak and that speeds up the idle so your idle setting on the carb is way to low to let it idle once the pcv is capped. With it off, turn in the idle speed screw in a couple of turns and cap the open pcv port. Then try and re-start it and reset the idle speed ? At least that's what I think he's sayin'. I tend to agree with him, but also have not messed with a 258. :-|
