I have a 360 with a stock type fuel pump installed new about 9 months ago. Between the pump and the Edelbrock 650 I also installed a see through fuel filter and a fuel pressure gage. At start-up I have about 4.5 psi of pressure. Drive around for about 30 min, come back to the garage and I have 0 psi and barely any fuel in the filter. Also on the highway when accelerating anything past 3500 rpm's it cuts out, I'm guessing it’s because of a lack of fuel. The question is, do I have a bad pump or do I need a different pump with higher volume capacity?
Thanks

Probably a bad pump, but it could be a vapor lock problem. Is the fuel line between the tank and pump anywhere close to the exhaust? Check for kinks or plugs in the line, and it could also be the "sock" (a factory filter at the intake inside the tank).

I've had great luck with the Carter high volume mechanical pump, sells at Summit or Jegs for about $70.

Thanks for the info TufCJ. I (89 YJ) do have dual exhausts of which one passes on the driver side frame rail. Might have to wrap the line in heat shield sleeve. Thanks for the info on the carter pump, since I will be going to a 401 in the future I will spring for that pump.

just to add my two cents worth.
I run a holley electric pump back by the tank and let the mechanical pump act as a pressure regulator.. thus not vapor lock issues.

I run strictly electric pumps with my 360... (I have 2 extra just in-case) 8) I also have a return line to keep the fuel constantly flowing thus making the pump work less and run cooler etc...

I know this might be a pain in the ass to do but can one you take a picture of the installed electric pump? I would appreciate it. I just got a Holley electric pump which I'm going to install near the gas tank and keep the mechanical pump.
Thanks

I think Jeff uses a built 258 just to power the fuel pump on that beast of his!

Naw, just a Aeromotive 1000 HP rated pump that draws 40 amps running.
