Putting my 401 together and figured I'd better check the clearance. (I'm running TRW 9.5 to 1 forged pistons and the Summit 8600 cam.)
Used the clay method and it appears that I have plenty of clearance. (close to .250").
I did not have a solid lifter available, so here's what I did:
1. Used an old hydraulic lifter and adjustable push rod tool.
2. Completely collapsed lifter.
3. Rolled over the engine a couple of times monitoring the lift at the push rod end of the rocker arm w/a dial indicator to verify the lifter was completely collapsed.
Is this an acceptable using a hydraulic lifter in this manner?
Thanks,
Scott
