Well, Took the AMX out Sunday, 6/3/07 for it's first time on the road in just over 4 years. She was stored for over a year while I moved from Denver to Chicago. I took her apart in April of 2003, a very neglected, beat up thing that had had a hard life. The interior was rotted away. Found during media blasting that it had been hit in every corner, the drivers door, and passenger rear quarter, but now she looks like new. Luckily, she was a Cali car, so very little rust. She also had some major unrepaired oil leaks, so the insides of the fenders and floorboards were covered with oil and sludge (gone now). The 390 runs great, with good oil pressure (bulltear nickel cover and mid-plate), and doesn't overheat.

The only bug I found is a rear drum that is slightly out of round. Gonna try to get it turned, or replace it.

Now I just need the stainless back from polishing and I'm ready for the 2007 AMO show in Denver. It's just a month away.

I'm really excited right now. :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Great Tufcj, gotta love it :t:

Bet ya are looking forward to "goin' home" in style

Did you have any "challanges" getting the Grille, upper strait
and diagonal Brackets, Support Plate, T-Bolts, Latch Brackets, to all line up ?

So the Grille was centered and vertical with leading edge
lining up with the bumper, and with the rubber bumpers
on the back edge of the support plate under the grille ?

I just installed a new '69 Grille a while back with all the parts
where some had been missing before, had a better grille plate.
Ended up having to drill (3) more holes for the Grille T-Bolts
in the support plate about 3/4-1" farther back
and was not able to get the screw in the center of the plate
that attaches it to the Latch Bracket with a speed nut.
This is the first screw you put in when doing the install
and it ends up under the Grille and cant be reached.
To get the grill vertical, the center T-Bolt went in the hole
intended for that first screw between plate and bracket.
The other center hole that is forward of that
is then covered by the T-Bolt "Box" on bottom of grille
so there is no room thier for a screw.

It was tuff, had it in and out about five times.
Finally looked at my old grille plate and saw it was slotted
so I drilled some holes farther back and things lined up better.
Butunder the grille in the center there is only one bolt, not 2.

Was yours anything like that ?

I bet that fresh BSO looks pretty sharp :t:

Black Go-Pak Stripes :-|

What size are your stipres ?

I measured mine,

-.21-.33-3.90-1.62-3.90-.33-.21-

but I've heard said it "should be"

-.25-.25-4.00-1.50-4.00-.25-.25

I had a 30 foot roll of flat black hi performance vinyl
cut to the dimensions I measured and have used that.

Did you buy some, paint'em on, or none ? :-|

Stripes were painted on using the second set of dimensions you listed. We took the measurements from an aftermarket set of stripes the prior owner gave me with the car. I did a BC/CC, and put the stripes on before the clear, so you can't even feel them when you run your hand across the panel.

I used a NOS grille (not a repro) It fit great. The original was broken when the bumper was pushed back about 1 1/2" right in the center. We used the grille to get the angles of the bumper correct, but it's still a little tweaked, and hangs slightly in the center. I was told by a couple of guys to let the grille "float", not to use the bottom mounts, the flex is what caused the originals to crack. Mine just sits on the rubber pads, I never tried to attach the bottom.

Now to just get a few miles on it.
