when i did my TFI upgrade i used an accel racing coil. it is alittle smaller than stock. i also installed a new duraspark II
module. went with 8.8mm bosch plug wires, got the wide cap
rotor and adapter from napa, and i run bosch platinum +4
plugs. it made the 258 run alittle smoother but i still have that
pile of crap bbd carb on it.

on my J20 I did the TFI on I did cap, rotor, wires, increased plug gap, and used MSD blaster coil that was a upgrade replacement on my old ferd, put a conector for the e-core on my stock wiring, seems to work just fine.

Well, we hooked the Mallory Unilite distributor up last night using the stock loom resistance wire and a Ford E-core coil. No ballast resistor. Working great so far. VERY simple wiring compared to the Duraspark.
