A904 questions

Can somebody tell me what the difference is between the A904 trannies for the 6 version and the V8 version? I've been told the bolt pattern is the same but the bell is shallower along with a shorter input shaft. Is that correct? If so then why wouldn't the V6 version bolt to the back of a V8? One more question. Can the jeep version of the trans be converted to 2wd by swapping the tailshaft housing and output shaft from a chrysler tranny?

I do not believe any of the 8's used a 904 they used 999's and 998's behind 304s. They all have different input shaft diameters I do know that for sure but I dont have much knowledge of the many other differences.
