I have rod end play of .028 on one pair of pistons, all others are .010 - .016 Motor is service block with 401 crank & rods w/ Ross pistons. The car is a week-end warrior only. Do I need to worry, or look for another rod? thanks

I wouldnt worry a whole hell of alot with that much rod play. What I would do is check the width of each rod to see if your machinist resized and refaced...then let him know how dissapointed you are. I doubt it will get any smoke...some guys run .040 and let the rods slop around.

The rods were a major head ache from the start. The guy who order the Ross pistons set up the piston for " chevy " rods. Had to bush the small end for the pistons. After three machine shops said no they could not do it. I went out and found one guy that would get the right size end.

The machine shop had the engine for almost 9 months, I guess he never checked the end-play or did not think it was a problem, that what you get with shops that do 95% Ford motors. Thanks for the peace of mind
