just boight a new pump today becuase the old one was leaking and when i got it the shaft on the pump is diffrent...my old pump has a shaft with a small key way and threads at the end and a nut that held on a dual pulley....the new pump just has a shaft that will press on a single pulley...i tried getting the exact pump that i already have but cant find one with threads and a nut that holds the pullies on....where did my old pump come from????

The pump with a bolt came from an early 70s vehicle, I think 74 or earlier. My AMX has a 73 pump and it has the bolt. My 77 CJ just has the press on pulley, no bolt.

I believe the change was made in 76 to the straight shaft versus the earlier tapered shaft with keyway and nut.

I won't replace a pump without new hoses anymore. I replaced a pump a few years ago because the steering was jerky, but it turned out the hoses were breaking down internally. The rubber particles jammed the rotary valve in the box, and burned up the new pump. I ended up replacing the box, pump, and hoses the SECOND time. Now I always replace the hoses, just for insurance.
