Want a T-18, with the 4.? first gear, for a V8, reasonable distance from SW Va.

best bet is to find one from a ford truck.

I was thinking Scout would be the more desireable option and just change the input, since most T-19's are 4:1 and you'd get the synchronized 1st gear instead of the T-18's unsync'd. :-|

I put in a call to a buddy I sold one to who tends to never get anything accomplished.

I have a T18a from a 79 FSJ. It is complete with the D20 and bellhousing. $350 plus shipping.

Scout T-18 won't work unless you transfer the internals to a Jeep or Ford case, or adapt the Scout bellhousing. On a Scout (unless it's AMC powered), the T-18 case is unique, bolted on from inside the bellhousing.

I HAVE ONE OUT OF A 79 CJ 7 THAT HAS A DANA 20 ATTACHED NOT SURE IF I WANTED TO PART WITH IT. IT HAS BEEN POWER WASHED AND PAINTED BLACK. I HAVE THE BELLHOUSING FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH FROM THE 360 ALSO.

That's incorrect. You change the input shaft - have it matched to a T-150 and change the input bearing retainer. We used to have a good writeup with pics on our local board. It wasn't very expensive to do, either. The difference in the bellhousing attachment is negligible. Set it up with bolts, studs, through bolts, whatever you want.

The scout T-18s I've seen don't have external "ears" to bolt to the bellhousing. The front of the case is threaded, and it has studs that go thru the bellhousing, with nuts on the inside, at least with the IHC 4 cylinders and 348 and 392 V-8s. I suppose you could drill holes in an AMC bellhousing, but there are no existing holes, and it isn't a "bolt-on". Having to bolt up a standard trans with the bellhousing attached is a MAJOR PITA.

AMC i-6 and 401 powered Scouts will be similar to a FSJ and just require the input/retainer change, but not the IH powered Scouts.

It was pointed out to me that I'm getting vehicles mixed up here. The T-19 input swap/bearing retainer info I mentioned was CJ-specific.

I have an 80's J-20 T-18/208 available, but I always assumed it was a 6.32:1. IFSJA's data suggests that the 4:1 and the 6.32:1 versions existed simultaneously. I guess I'll just have to do some counting. Maybe it will be what he needs.
