hello all , new to this forum ! pretty straight up question , i have a 304 in my cj now , but was thing about building a 360 from a guy i just talked to . i have all the typical mods ( all the edelbrock performer this and thats )on the 304 , would my heads from the 304 bolt to the 360 , and would there be any big gains in performance with the 360 . i'm looking to build "spare" motor for kicks , thanks !

304 heads would bolt on but the valves are too small. I would recommend building a 360 over a 304...same cost to build but more HP. "There is no replacement for cubic inch displacement"

so would i just have to replace the valves , or would the heads have to be redone ? ( sorry , i'm not an expert on them , i had them done at a reputable race shop)

NO to the 304 heads on the 360. As stated the valves and chambers are too small. They would bolt up due to the same pattern, but wouldn't work like you would want.

A 360 build with stock heads would out perform the $1000 you would invest in those 304 heads to get them to work.

According to my information the 304 heads actually have larger combustion chambers than the 360 heads and the smaller valves will limit performance, if you were building a LOW rpm rock crawler motor the 304 heads wouldn't be bad way to go, maybe with an Edlebrock SP2P, it would have tons of LOW end torque!
