is it a good deal if I buy a cj5 frame rust free with new springs and a 401 in unknown condition for $75. I figured even if the engine was no good I could probably get that much for the springs.

He!! yeah $75 is a steal!!! You could part the motor out for more than that.

Id be great but somehow the casting marks decided to magically become 304 instead of 401. guy took it back no questions. #-o

oh....well scratch that idea.....buddy has an open C frame for cheap around here but im looking for a good boxed frame.....so far the only options im seeing around here is buy a brand new or find a sweet CJ-7 or wrangler frame and chop it down and modify it to make it work......does anybody know of a drawing that will show frame heights and dimensions??? Took an auto body class and for a frame pulling machine we had drawings of vehicles like 95 and newer that would tell us the dimensions and widths of it.....but we couldnt locate one for an 80 CJ-5 anywhere.....

Why not just box in the c-channel frame it is alot easier and less money than finding a 7 frame and cutting it down.

I bought a frame from a guy in southern wisconsin but I cant seem to find his number anywhere. I think his place was called three rivers offroad. He specialized in jeep frames/bodies and bronco parts.

Don't listen to these Jokers!
That CJ frame and 401 is worthless!
I would not bother with it... it's junk!
Now, give me the address so I can go dispose of this so others will not waste their time on such a wretched pile of bolts! http://images.orfay.com/i/smilies/phew.gif

But didn't see the CJ5  Maybe Paul has a copy?

Otherwise, try this:
